2024 Juried Annual Prospectus-2

Eligibility

Artists at all career levels from emerging to established professional, 18 years of age or older residing in the State of Wisconsin, are invited to enter two-dimensional, original artworks. 


Submission Fee

Artists may enter up to two (2) works for a $30.00 non-refundable entry fee.

Tuesday, September 3 | Email notification to artists

September 3 - 18 | Artwork delivery. Work may be delivered until 6:30 pm on Mondays Sept. 9 and 16, and until 4:30 pm Tuesdays - Saturday through Sept. 18, 2024. Works not received by 4:30 pm September 18 will not be included in the exhibition. Note: The museum is closed on Sundays.

Friday, September 27, 4 - 6pm | Opening reception; remarks and awards at 5:30 pm

Saturday, November 9 | Exhibition closes

November 11 - 16 | Artwork pick-up between the hours of 10 am - 4:30 pm. Note: Works that include a return shipping label will be expedited within two (2) weeks of the close of the exhibition. 


Conditions of Entry

  • Original two-dimensional (hangable) art created by the artist within the past two (2) years in any media.
  • Artwork dimensions must not exceed 48” L x 48" H x 5" D including the framing.
  • Artwork must be a single unit; diptychs or triptychs are not eligible.
  • Artwork that has previously been exhibited in Door County may not be submitted.
  • In fairness to all entrants, artwork completed under the direction of a teacher during a class or workshop may not be entered.
  • Reproductions of originals in any form, including giclée fine art reproductions, are not eligible.

Entry Procedures

  • Visit https://millerartmuseum.org/ and follow the link to ArtCall.org from the 'Artist Opportunities' tab to begin the submission process. New users will be required to create a profile with user login and password. Existing users need only login and follow the process for a new submission(s).
  • New users: Click the blue "+ Register" button at the top right of the prospectus page to begin the registration process (see image at right).
  • Existing users: Click the green "Login" button at the top of the prospectus page if you have already registered.
  • Artists will receive notification by email on Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2024.

Images

  • Images should be direct-facing and cropped to exclude matting and framing or surrounding space.
  • Digital images should be submitted in .jpg format (resolution of 300dpi; minimum image length on the longest side: 540px and max length on the longest side: 4600px).
  • Images should depict color as accurately as possible and be sharply focused.
  • File size must be limited to 4MB.
  • Images must be uploaded in the correct orientation.
  • All image files must be named as follows: Artist Name_Artwork Title_medium.jpg to reflect artist name, artwork title and medium.

Cash Awards

A total of $1,950.00 in cash awards will be presented at the opening reception: three (3) Special Merit Awards ($250 each), three (3) Juror’s Choice Awards ($200 each), the Gerhard Miller Award of Excellence ($500), and the Bonnie Hartmann Award for Outstanding Creativity ($100).


Selection Process

Digital .jpg images are projected on a screen and reviewed by a panel of jurors. Accepted artwork that is deemed not to be an original, is a copy or is not accurately depicted may be omitted by the curator at the time of installation. Artwork deemed not presentable for any reason, including improper framing, may be omitted from exhibition by the curator. 


Artwork Delivery & Pick-up

  • Accepted work must be delivered to the museum on the scheduled drop-off dates and times only. Packing materials must be removed at the time of delivery and retained by the artist.
  • Artwork must be delivered framed, gallery wrapped, or otherwise ready to hang. No clips, magnets, or open matting/Plexiglass will be accepted. Frames must be equipped with D-ring or picture wire. Sawtooth hangers, alligator clips, and Z-bars will not be accepted.
  • If an artist chooses to ship, a pre-paid return shipping label MUST be provided and accompany the artwork delivery. All packaging received from shipped work will be retained by the Miller Art Museum and used for return shipping. Important: All shipping costs are the responsibility of the artist.
  • Accepted artwork must be properly labeled. Artists must print and securely attach an identification label, generated through Artcall, to the back of each work.
  • Artwork may not be removed from the exhibition prior to the exhibition closing on November 9, 2024.
  • The Miller Art Museum reserves the right to refuse any artwork that is damaged, fails to meet entry and eligibility requirements or is improperly framed. 
  • The Miller Art Museum will exercise professional care in handling artwork; however, the museum staff and volunteers will not be held liable for loss or damage to artwork while on the premises or during shipping. Artwork will be insured for the duration of the exhibition. Artist shall, at his/her/their expense, procure and maintain additional insurance as desired against all risk of loss or damage.
  • Any artwork left in the possession of the Miller Art Museum after the scheduled pick-up dates will be disposed of at the discretion of the Miller Art Museum after 30 days.

Sales

Artwork may or may not be for sale as each artist wishes. The museum retains a 40% commission on each sale; the retail price should reflect this commission. If you have an exclusive contract with a Door County gallery, any artwork sales will be transacted through that gallery; please list the gallery name and commission percentage during the submission process. For artists with exclusive contracts, please contact the curator.
